Lenn Roberson was raised in Northampton County of North Carolina. She was always fascinated by the fact that this was where horse racing in America actually began. This led to the author’s interest in local history, as well as a passion for horses. With a background in nursing, she has worked with many elements from her novel, including disabled children and battered women. She grew up boating and swimming in the Roanoke, named by the Native Americans as the “river of death.” She had the delicious experience of living in an old Southern mansion which was said to be haunted and hearing things go bump in the night. Roberson co-founded the Roanoke Valley Writer’s Group and started Rainbow Readers Literacy Program. She has published magazine articles an enjoys writing stories with rich local atmosphere and historical details.
